Jailer Yeary began her career in corrections in 1986, after earning her bachelors degree from Eastern Kentucky University. While working for the KY Parole Board, Ms. Yeary earned her Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from EKU. After a 20 plus year career in corrections as a probation and parole officer for the State of Kentucky, Ms. Yeary retired. In 2017, Yeary was appointed by the late Joseph Pfeffer, Mason County Judge Executive, to fill the vacated Jailer’s position. Ms. Yeary has held the position of Jailer since 2017 and finds this position to be the highlight of her long career in corrections.
“There are so many facets to being a Jailer, it is hard to say which one is my favorite. I love having the opportunity to help families and friends who have someone in our care, navigate the criminal justice system. Equally I love being a part of the solution when it comes to reducing recidivism by offering classes (educational, treatment) while inmates are incarcerated. While jails and its employees do not always get the recognition they deserve, seeing positive change in some of our inmates makes a career in corrections very rewarding. Bridging that gap between our inmates and the community through inmate work programs, leaves everyone involved with a very positive experience. I also appreciate the opportunity to take our county jail to the next level of professionalism while maintaining a high standard of safety and security through training, remaining current with the trends in corrections and staying involved with our state organization- Kentucky Jailers Association.”
